Anti-HCV EIA by Three Diagnostic Reagent

Abstract

|
Several kinds of anti-HCV EIA reagents are available and the selection of most appropriate reagent is very important for the screening of blood donors.
The authors compared Ortho first generation kit based on C 100-3 protein, Organon Taknika second generatio9n kit based on C 100-3, some none-structural and one structural protein and Lucky made kit based on two none-structural protein and one
structural
protein.
Study subjects consist of 637 random blood donor samples and 180 positive blood donors screened by first generation reagent.
The results are as follows.
In 637 random samples, the positive results by screening EIA were 0.63% (4 cases) by Ortho first generation kit, 0.63% (4 cases) by Organon Teknika 2nd generation kit and 0.94% (6 cases) by Lucky 2nd generation kit.
HCV antibody screening is very useful test for the detection of blood donors, post-transfusion hepatitis and various liverdisease but sensitivity and specificity are relatively low.
So futher evaluation and development of reagent for detection of hepatitic C virus infection by enzyme immunoassay.
